When I purchased the sideboard, it had been painted with sanded areas to show a distressed look. The sideboard was stripped back to the original timber then I gilded the whole piece using faux gold leaf. The original handles were kept and a clear plastic protector was used to prevent damage to the surface.
The antique cupboard from Bali is made of teak and is beautifully carved with relief work. The outer area of the cupboard is painted in a dark grey and the inside area painted with a pale green for a contrast. The carved relief work is gilded with faux gold leaf and the cupboard door and drawers are fitted with brass knobs.
The dining chairs had faux leather upholstery when purchased about a decade ago and were looking quite worn.
I decided it would be better to refurbish rather than replace the chairs and I had an idea to drape a tassel at the back of the chair as they had high backs
Along with the re-upholstery in jet black plush velvet, adding the black tassels has given the chairs a luxurious look
